Home.

Just stopping by to say we're still here! Griff and I are visiting family for a few days, so we're too busy shopping, snuggling and enjoying our time with them to think about blogging. We'll have good stories to share later though. Till then, enjoy this cutie!

I know that every parent thinks their kid is the cutest, but seriously, look at this boy! I think we've got a ladies' man on our hands!

my favorite monkey is two months old today. can't believe how fast the days have gone by!

Blog Advertising

 I've got a question for you and would definitely love your feedback. I'm looking to draw more traffic to my Etsy store and am considering paying the money to advertise on some well known blogs that have a great deal of traffic. While it's not a great deal of money I would have to invest, I do want to make sure I'm spending my money in a way that will actually produce some shop orders.

If you follow or read a blog that has sponsors/advertising on it, do you mind answering these questions for me? {Feel free to answer whichever you prefer in the comments!}

Do you actually pay attention to the sponsors or just have a general knowledge {probably based off of a picture on the side} that the blog has them?

Are you more likely to be interested in the sponsor if the blog hosts a giveaway of their item?

How likely are you to visit the shop of a sponsor or use a coupon code?

If you have any other opinions have on blog sponsors, please feel free to leave your thoughts!

Speaking of my shop... I've got a few new prints in, along with bringing back some holiday favorites! I know Christmas is still a ways away, but I like to get my decorating done right after Thanksgiving so I wanted to have the prints available so you have plenty of time to shop! {these also make great affordable gifts to give to your friends early!}

And just for something fun, if you leave a comment about your thoughts on blog sponsors, I'll email you a coupon code for free shipping! {if your email account isn't attached to your google log in, you might want to update that or at least leave an email address with your comment!}

Head to Etsy and have fun shopping!

Thanks for your help!

WIWW - Ponte Pants

Last weekend was Homecoming at our alma mater. We really hadn't talked much about doing any of the evening activities, but at the last minute decided to have a quick date night to go see SING! {sing is hard to explain until you've seen it. it's basically several 10 minute mini-musicals that on campus groups preform. it's always a great deal of fun to see what the groups come up with!}

All that to say, here's a date night outfit!
fall outfit

cardigan: f21       shirt: walmart       ponte pants: gap {SO COMFORTABLE!}
peacock pin: loft       bracelet: audacious {store in my hometown}       flats: antonio melani from dillards

two things:

1. I love these pants. My parents gave them to me for Christmas last year and I wasn't able to wear them as much as I wanted due to that whole growing belly. I will say though, I don't think you can wear ponte pants {ake, VERY FITTED} without wearing a top that is longer and covers your bum. Because I can be honest and say, they are definitely pants, as they're a thick material and have buttons/pockets, but they are also a fancy version of tights. And I am a firm believer that TIGHTS ARE NOT PANTS. So, I have to be selective on my tops when I wear these.

2. I have been on the hunt for a good pair of black ballet flats for months. Last week I showed off just how embarrassing my other pair was. WELL past their retirement date. Well, when I was at shopping at home in a larger Dillards than what we have, I found these and knew they were the ones.  Imagine my joy when my mom told me, "I never would have thought that you would buy such a boring, sensible pair of shoes." Yeah, talk about taking the wind out from under my wings! As you can see, I didn't let her words keep me from buying the shoes :)

Pumpkin + Spice

Well, we're back to having a super warm weather week in Texas, but I won't let the 90 degree temps keep me from celebrating fall! I've actually posted this recipe before here, but it's too good to not share again!

pumpkin spice cake

Take 1 Spice cake mix, 1 can of pumpkin and 2/3 cup water. Mix well and bake according to directions on the package. Top with cream cheese icing. Easy and delicious!

Last time I made this I did it in a bundt pan. I have to admit, it's a really pretty cake if you drizzle the icing on it! This time I was about to make cupcakes when I saw my loaf pan. Now, I realize that cake mixes don't put cooking directions for a loaf pan on them for a reason! I had to keep checking in on the cake because I wasn't sure how long it would need to bake. {it ended up being around 35 minutes.}

As odd as it may seem to make a cake in a loaf pan, once I really thought about it I thought it was a great idea! {I know, humble brag.} I plan on making up several of these in foil tins to give as holiday gifts this season. This cake isn't overly sweet, so it could be a breakfast dish too, as long as you're like me and have no shame in eating cake for breakfast!

I hope you'll try this recipe out soon.. I promise you won't be disappointed!

Last Friday Night

Two weeks ago Cody and I were headed out to our Sunday School social when we got some disturbing news:

tiger

People were shaking in their boots and worried for their lives....

Luckily the zoo keepers quickly came to the rescue and contained the wild beast!

{I didn't get any other pictures from our SS costume party, but we had a great time! And had the cutest tiger around if I do say so myself!}

Our fun weekend wasn't over yet though. The next day Cody's family came into town so that his grandparents and brother could finally meet Griffin.

We spent the day hanging out around the house, had cousins come over and just enjoyed each other's company. It was a quick, short visit but we're thankful they got to come into town!

WIWW - Mixing Patterns

the other day I saw a status on facebook that said: this mixing patterns trend has GOT to go!

and I shouted "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but personally, I LOVE the mixing pattern trend. I may have even been doing it before it was actually cool and in style. {see outfits here and here for proof!} I know it will probably eventually go out of style again, but for now, I'm soaking it up!

and my super embarrassingly tattered black ballets from target have now been replaced and are in the trashcan!

so what side of the fence do you fall on: yay or nay for mixing patterns?

Bami's Pumpkin Party

I come from a long line of over-achievers. There is a reason I like to decorate and try to go that extra step. It's because my mom did it and her mom did it. So anytime my mom gets onto me and says I need to be resting or that I'm doing to much, I just tell her it's her own fault!

Bami's Pumpkin Party is one of those area's of over-achievement, in the best possible way! Several years ago Bami hosted her first party for the great-grandkids and it has since become an October tradition. She goes above and beyond with cute decorations, food to match the theme, fun games and of course, pumpkins to carve!  Up until this point, I've actually only enjoyed the party through pictures, as I've always been traveling for work and couldn't make it home to go. Once I realized that I would still be out on maternity leave for the month of October, I quickly begged Bami to make sure it was going to be on a night that we could go so Griffin wouldn't miss his first party!

Griffin and I loaded up in the car a week ago Sunday and headed off for the panhandle for the party on Monday. Listen y'all, traveling with a baby is no joke. I felt like I was taking our whole house the car was so full! Griffin did pretty good in the car, sleeping most of the way. We made it about 15 minutes from home when he let me know that he was tired of the carseat. There wasn't a darn thing I could do to make him feel better, so I just turned up the radio and prayed the miles went quickly!

Monday afternoon rolled around and we headed over to see Bami cooked up for the party! See what I told you about food to match the theme? The cupcakes were adorable, along with ghost cheese bread,  and Nutter Butter fingers.  {nutter butters dipped in almond bark with a jelly bean fingernail. one of the great grands proclaimed - that fingernail just ruined my appetite!}

pumpkinparty1

There was plenty of standing around and snacking before it was time to get to business - the pumpkin carving! Bamps and Bami have been doing this long enough that they've figured out a few things... including cutting out the designs with a jigsaw! As you can tell from this top picture, the boys have figured out a few things too... like letting the mom's do all the work of cleaning out the pumpkins!

{me, bami, bamps, my counsins micah & erin. don't you love our wigs!}

L to R is griffin, cash, titan, barrett, david and brody. next year jaxson will be in the mix too. and maybe one of these days we'll get a girl in the mix :) // bami and griffin, all tuckered out from too much fun // me, bami and mom // bamps rocking his afro! //  "mom, why do you let them do this to me?" // bamps and griff

It was such a fun night catching up with a few of my cousins and introducing Griffin to a lot of my family members.  Thanks for all of the work you put into the party Bami! We're so glad we got to be there!

The Last Beholder Book 1 { a giveaway! }

I could not be more excited to share this giveaway with you today!

 Erin is a long time family friend {I debated showing a picture of us in the bathtub at about 2 yrs old but decided that might be too embarrassing for the blog!} She is creative down to her bones and I have always been inspired {and slightly jealous!} by her many talents.

Yesterday, under their pen names of M.E. Wyatt and B. Wynn, Erin and her friend Megan released their first book, The Last Beholder, Book 1.

last beholder

 I've had the privilege to get a copy early and while I'm not finished with it yet, I'm hooked on the story! Here's a little taste for you:

 It all started the day Gus murdered the ficus.

Which also happened to be the day Wallis watched her hair turn to gold.

 After an unspoken and even more unlikely alliance forms the day their parents marry, Wallis and Gus soon discover that there’s a reason for every feeling of un-belonging they’ve ever known. It doesn’t take long for the adventure of a lifetime to begin right under their feet -- teaching them to look beyond what they are able to see into what they are able to know. And maybe even remember.

 This is a story about true things that sit just a layer behind what our eyes can see.
 This is a story about how two misfit kids learned their own value -- not just in the ordinary world around them, but in the extraordinary world of the way things truly are.

 Journey with Wallis and Gus to lands far beyond, which, it turns out, are hiding just beyond the cracks of this world.

 I am so excited to have two copies of The Last Beholder Book 1 to giveaway today! I'm giving you one freebie entry and then you can earn extras by liking Wyatt and Wynn on Facebook and tweeting about the giveaway. Take a few minutes to to check out their website too, plus read the reviews on Amazon! {if you're reading this in google reader and don't see the rafflecopter to enter, click over to the blog to be able to enter!}

 a Rafflecopter giveaway

 The give way will go till next Wednesday and I'll announce the winner Thursday. Congrats again Erin- I'm so proud for you!

 In case you want to read more about their inspiration behind the story, check out this guest post Erin did!

crockpot-fudge

 Listen, it's really important that you do not stir or lift the lid for the 3 hours. You'll mess up the easiest recipe ever if you do! :) Not only is this recipe delicious, but it's a great one to make to take to friend's for a holiday gift. Put it on a pretty plate, cover with cellophane and viola, one sweet gift!
