5 on Friday

1. We have survived Griffin's first stomach bug.

Griff got sick last night as we were about to leave church and then threw up several times through out the course of the night. Y'all, sick babies are just the worse. Poor guy was basically dry heaving for most of the night and would scream his head off through most of it but there just wasn't much to do to make it better. We spent most of the day resting and trying to get some fluids down and are praying that we have turned a corner.

Motherhood truly changes a person. It's amazing what your child can spit up on you that once would make you gag too! :)

2. Sadly, having a sick boy meant that we had to sit out on going to our church's Trunk or Treat.  We put G's costume on him just to snap a few pics. Even though he was under the weather, you have to admit: this is one cute giraffe!!

3.  One of my friends posted about this on facebook the other day so I thought I would give it a try.

I rarely ever buy these, but y'all, THIS IS DELICIOUS. I spread a little bit on an english muffin and had it with eggs for dinner and it took everything in me not to go and eat it by the scoopful. I think it would be great dip with fruit and graham crackers. Now, all I need to know is if cream cheese spread freezes so I can create a stockpile!

4.  I listed a new print in my Etsy shop last week and made one for myself to hang in our play area.

I love the process of "seeing" something in my head and having it come to life and get so excited when I finally get it in hand. This one turned out even better than I dreamed and I can't wait to hang it up!

5.  Tomorrow marks November 1st and one of the best days in the history of my town: our Super Walmart opens up!!!! When we first found out we were possibly going to be moving here, we came to check out the town. I vividly remember driving around and going, "Yes! They have a Walmart, I can make it!" Turns out I was totally wrong. Ours is not a Super Walmart, meaning it didn't have any produce and was actually missing a lot of other things {including my face wash, primer, then q-tips, light bulbs and batteries now that they've stopped stocking it and sending stuff to the new store.}

Griff and I made one last trip to our ghetto mart this week to say our goodbyes:

And hopefully tomorrow we'll make our debut trip to the store just to walk around and see what all we can buy now... It's a great day people!

5 on Friday

{one}
after taking the summer off and enjoying far too many sonic shakes, i headed back to work out class on monday night. i made it back tuesday and seriously, by the time i was crawling into bed that night, i wanted to cry because my body hurt so bad.  i'm counseling myself with the fact that all of the other regulars were complaining about how sore they were too, so at least i know the work outs were hard and it's not totally that i'm that out of shape.  here's hoping this becomes a habit again!

{two}
i'll share more about it later, but i've tried out a monthly menu plan for august and i can't believe how well it is working out for us. we only at out once last week and are on track to only eat out once or twice this week, plus we've actually eaten all of our leftovers. definitely a success in my book!

{three}
speaking of eating, griffin is now in the habit of throwing almost all of his food on the floor. now, i know this is just a part of being a kid, but any suggestions for how to stop it? this morning i resorted to only giving him one sliver of toast at a time to try and curb the throwing and it works up until a point. is it just a phase that has to run its course or can something be done to help teach him we don't throw food?

{four}
guess what? i got myself a job this week! i'm going to cook the wednesday night meal at our church for the children and jr. high students. it's only a couple hours of work but the extra money will be just the right help for us.  if you have any good recipes for cooking for a big group, please send them my way!

{five}
griff and i are headed to lubbock tomorrow to have a shopping day with my mom. i'm hoping to get some items for his birthday party and lots of material for projects we have around the house.  it will probably be a full day, but i'm hoping to get a lot accomplished!

Five on Friday {griffin edition}

1. We had a movie night with the youth group Wednesday night and Griffin got his first taste of popcorn.

Boy is a fan! He kept crawling over to different students and trying to get his hand into their bag. Once he finally did, the party really started!

2. As much as it pains me to admit about my baby boy, Griffin is one month away from celebrating his first birthday.  {excuse me while I go cry!} My heart is so torn about the party: I honestly don't really want to even do a one, because even though there are some really cute ideas out there on Pinterest, I think they are over the top for a first birthday.  {we all know the party is for me anyway, griff will never remember this.} {and technically, the party will also be for me since we share a birthday ;}  The realistic side of me says I will end up sad if we don't at least do a small celebration,  so I gave myself a small budget to do a few favors and have researched a few ideas. Well, of course my researching has lead me to want to DO, DO, DO!!!  Let's hope that my crafty desires can stay in line with my budget!

3. Speaking of birthdays... what are some good ideas for a first birthday present? A few ideas I've seen include:

A Radio Flyer Wagon

A Little Tikes Car

Pottery Barn Kid's Chair

While I think these are good ideas, the problem with the car and the wagon is that we don't really have a good driveway space for Griff to actually be able to go out and use it. The Pottery Barn chair would be great, but they don't really come in colors that would fit in with our house. {I can't imagine why Pottery Barn doesn't have lime green chairs flying off the shelves!} So, if you have a good idea of what you gave your kid for their first birthday, pass it along please!

4. A few weeks ago I was whining to Cody that Griff was growing up and was never going to want to cuddle with me again.  Tuesday night I was giving Griffin his evening bottle before putting him down to bed. I usually know when he's done because he pushes the bottle out and starts looking around what toy he can play with.  Well, much to my surprise and utter delight, he pushed the bottle out and sat up, only then to put his head into my chest to snuggle with me. Y'all, I still could start crying just at the sweet memory. It is now one of my favorite memories with Griffin to date!

5. I let Griffin crawl around and explore our room as I get ready in the morning, which usually ends up in him making his way over to my night stand to dig through my stuff. Tuesday though, he made his way to Cody's drawer. Even though I know I probably should have stopped him, I decided to let Griff help "organize" his drawers as payment for all of the times mine have been cleaned out! You gotta admit though, it's hard to get mad at this cute face!

Five For Friday

1. Our new town is about an hour between two major cities. Before we moved, we were told that we picked up both tv and radio stations. Imagine my surprise when I actually get to town and get a whopping THREE radio stations, one of which is NPR {joy for Cody, not so much for me.} Cody didn't have any problems getting all of the stations, which made the whole situation even more confusing, as I have the newer, nicer car. Eventually I accepted the fact that I would just have to use my iPod if I hoped to have any good music. That same day, Cody happened to be looking in my car for something and found the antenna, unattached, in the back seat. Wouldn't ya know I can get all of the same stations he does now? :) {we had some hail damage fixed on our car. apparently the dealership took the antenna off and didn't put it back on.}

2. Two weeks ago was prom here and several of our youth group girls lookin' snazzy on instagram and facebook. Sunday morning when I went to drop Griffin off in the nursery, I complimented one of the moms on how pretty her daughter looked the night before. She gave me a half-hearted smile and said thanks. Only after that, I noticed another mom standing in the room looking at me strangely and that's when it hit me: I totally complimented the wrong mom. Ha!

3. Our church has a work out class three times a week that I've started going to. Last night we did a card workout {flip a card from a deck, do 5 push ups for 5 of hearts, 10 squats on jack of clubs, etc.} Great work out and now I can't feel my arms. Combine the fact that I've actually done a few work outs and I started tanning last week, I feel like I've lost 10 lbs. {sadly though, tanning only makes you feel like you've lost weight. results will not be reflected on the scale.}

4. I attended my first MOPS meeting today. I am actually really excited to be a part of it and am thankful to get to know some moms in town through it. The one person that I do for sure know that first invited me to MOPS wasn't going to be there, so I was a little anxious to go on my own. It did feel a little bit like walking into speed dating for moms! :)

5. This kid.
