Bread & Wine {Supper Club}

Last summer I randomly took a chance to introduce myself to a mom in Pizza Inn because she had kids about Griffin's age. That lead to an introduction into a Pokeno group (a different game than Bunko but similar monthly group night) that has been such a fun way to meet new friends. Around Christmas we decided to switch things up a little bit for a few months and do a Supper Club with Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist.

I haven't read her previous books {Cold Tangerines or Bittersweet} or her blog, but plan on reading them soon. She has a writing style that is easy to connect with and is a quick read, yet is challenging and leaves you wanting more from life. The book is broken up into four parts and each part is a collection of a short story (almost like reading a blog post) followed with a recipe.

Those of us who were able to make it that night chose a recipe from part one and brought to share it with the group. We had a meal of:

Steak au Poivre with Cognac Pan Sauce
Cheese Risotto
Green Well Salad with Maple Vinaigrette
Goat Cheese Biscuits and Strawberry Jam
Nigella's Flourless Chocolate Brownies

 Everything that we brought was delicious. I was full from the first round of food yet wanted to keep going back for more because everything was that wonderful. While I only made the brownies, we all confirmed that the recipes weren't hard to make, though some required more steps than we normally take. As good as the food was, the best part of the night was stepping out of our comfort zones. There weren't as many girls who showed up for Supper Club as compared to a Pokeno night, yet the night went on much long and was filled with rich conversation. As I left for dinner at 6:30, I told Cody I'd probably be home in 2 hours.... and 10 pm he called to check and make sure I was ok! I felt refreshed and renewed after that night and I can't wait till we get together for part two.

 If you have a group of friends or are looking to step out of your comfort zone to get to know new people better, try out a Supper Club with Bread & Wine. I promise it will deliver great food and even better conversations!
