Crowns and Gowns.

Almost two years ago, my life was forever changed when Leslie emailed me a blog post by Boomama. Hands down, it is still one of the funniest pieces I've read and I find myself frequently laughing over it.

Sophie {Boomama} so eloquently penned an article over the plights of the holiest email closure. Here is the article. Stop now and go read it. For real.

Did you read it?

You should be laughing now.

You also need to know it for the next part of this blog.

Tuesday night, I was with my friend Sarah and her sister Hannah at their parent's house for a "last watermelon of the season" party. {pictures to come} Hannah writes for the Abilene Reporter News and was joking with Sarah and I about an article she did over the Mrs. Abilene pageant that is coming up and how we should apply for it. Once she said that the American Heart Association sponsors it, I said I would definitely be a shoe in to win. {two heart surgeries will do that for you!}

That lead to Hannah sending me the news article over it and I emailed the lady in charge of the pageant to get more information. Here is the email she sent me:
{you can skip to the bottom of the email if you don't want to read the whole thing.}

Thank you for your interest in the Mrs. Abilene title/2012 Mrs. Texas International Pageant. The following e-mail contains all the information on the 2012 Pageant, how to proceed with the application process, as well as a little bit of information on the International System.

Established 25 years ago, the International System celebrates the inner and outer beauty of today's married women. Contestants in the Mrs. Texas International Pageant compete in 3 areas of competition: evening gown (25% of your total score), fitness wear (25%), and interview (50%). There is no talent, no swimsuit competition, and no experience necessary!

The winner of the Mrs. Texas Pageant will receive a prize package valued at over $20,000 and the chance to compete against the 49 other States and countries around the world for the title of Mrs. International.

For 2012, the Mrs. Abilene title will be awarded without a live competition, but rather by our Executive State Committee, based on eligibility and applications received. The women ultimately selected as Mrs. Abilene, will go on to represent your area in the 2012 Mrs. Texas International Pageant, April 27 - 29, to be held at the beautiful Selena Auditorium overlooking the Corpus Christi Bay in Corpus Christi, Texas. To be eligible for the Mrs. Abilene title, you must be between the ages of 21 and 56 and married a minimum of six months as of July 1, 2012.

There is absolutely no fee associated with applying for the Mrs. Abilene title. However, if selected, you would be subject to an entry fee to participate in the Mrs. Texas International Pageant. The entry fee for the 2012 Pageant is $650 and includes each contestant's opening number dress as well as meals and activities during pageant weekend. For your convenience, the entry fee is split up into 5 monthly installments, and with a little drive, determination, and enthusiasm (qualities that make for a great Mrs. Texas) no contestant should ever have to pay her own entry fee. This is done by obtaining sponsors (completely optional). In addition, each contestant also receives her own contestant page on the Mrs. Texas website to list and thank sponsors.

The Mrs. Texas Pageant firmly believes that cost should never be a factor that would prevent exceptional women from participating in this opportunity. For that reason, we've built in a way to help contestants defray the cost of competing. We offer contestants in the Mrs. Texas Pageant the opportunity to sell "Good Luck" wishes that are printed in a special section of the souvenir program book. We encourage you to sell them for $25. You keep $20 of that as a commission and send us $5 just to cover the cost of printing. If you sell only 20 lines, you've raised $400! You'll receive your official "Good Luck Lines" order form in your official contestant packet that you'll receive if selected as Mrs. Abilene. ***This is a completely optional program and has no bearing on scoring.

The next step is to complete the application (bio. form) and mail it, along with a current snapshot, to our office in San Antonio (address below). You'll find an application attached to this e-mail. You may also download the application from our website: I'd also be happy to send you a hard copy via snail mail. Your photo may be a headshot or full body shot and does not have to be professionally taken (any recent snapshot or family photo will be more than appropriate).

Abby, I am certain that you will find competing in the 2012 Mrs. Texas Pageant to be an incredible, uplifting, experience: one that your entire family will look back on with the fondest of memories. The decision, however, must be made by you and your husband. I'm happy to provide you with any additional information needed to reach that decision. Feel free to call or e-mail me anytime. For more information on the Mrs. Texas International Pageant, I encourage you to visit our website:, as well as our National website:, or contact me directly.

Y'all. I am still laughing about it. And I'm fighting the urge to add it to all of my email signatures. I also did some research on the Mrs. Texas pageant and it is all types of professional. I told Cody I would probably have to get hair extensions to compete in it. :)

{let me know if you want to sponsor me as I}
Dream of Crowns and Gowns,

  1. This post literally had me rolling as I read it. You crack me up girl! So sad we didn't get to see yall when we were in Abilene.
    Grace and Peace,

  2. I totally meant to tell you that's how she signs her emails! I can't believe I didn't. The hilarious thing- getting a quick response from her as she explained she was boarding a plane and would call me when she landed. Still signed "Dreams of Crowns and Gowns" ..... "Sent from my iPhone" HAHAHAHAHA

Thanks for commenting- I love hearing from readers!
