The Help.

I am very leery of books that become movies.

Reading has been a passion of mine from a very young age. I love well crafted words and the way the image is painted into my brain as the story plays out. I believe in protecting my imagination and the vision I've created, so it's a rather big deal when I decide to watch a movie based off a book I enjoyed reading. {Which is why I've never watched  the Harry Potter movies in it's entirety.}

I was actually saddened when I heard they were making a movie of The Help.  I doubted that a director could truly capture everything that is The Help and assumed they were going to ruin it.

Then I saw a preview:

I was interested.  And with each preview I saw,  my excitement grew and grew.

Tonight, on opening day, I had the privilege of watching The Help. I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed a movie as much as I did tonight. The director did an unbelievable job of capturing the heart of the story. As I reflect back, I realize that I love this book so much because I want to believe that I could be Skeeter, Aibileen and Minnie as they bravely told their story and made a difference in a dark time. We want to be capable of the courage they possessed.

You will laugh, cry, clap, mourn, rejoice and want to see the movie again before the final credits finish rolling. I'm not sure what your weekend plans include, but The Help should be at the top of your list!

You is kind.
You is smart.
You is important.

  2. I'm so glad the movie lived up to the wonderfulness that is the book.

    I had the same reaction - I can only hope that I would have the courage to stand up for others when they are being treated unjustly.

    I have plans to see the movie next weekend, but I think that may have to get bumped up.
