38 Weeks {Big News!}

with this pregnancy winding down, it was time for one cliche picture! {38 weeks}

38 weeks... had to have at least one cliche pregnancy picture before it was all over!
{feel free to skip down to the bold part if you want to go straight to the big news}

Size of Baby: Who knows! We ended up cancelling our appointment with the high risk dr. this week because my regular dr. said it wasn't necessary. While I was a little sad to not get one last appointment and sonogram, it made Tuesday a much easier day and saved us our $35 copay :)

Symptoms: -  No changes in dilation or effacement sadly.  I had a really painful weekend and had more of a constant lower pelvic pain so I was really hoping for a change. Dr. Mascorro did at least confirm that he is lower {I'm trying to figure out how much a baby can "drop" on a short girl like myself!} and we put a game plan into place for delivery. More to come on that in just a sec!

 Maternity Clothes: - Still wearing both. The question will now be if I will ever want to wear my normal clothes again once I'm not pregnant or if I'll want to burn them all and get a new wardrobe :) {I do have my fun money saved up just in case I need a shopping spree!}

Sleep: - Oh sleep, what are you?  I am sleeping some, but it's not very good. Even though I am exhausted, it takes me a while to fall asleep at night. Then I constantly wake up either because of bathroom breaks, all over achenes in my body or my mind just runs in every direction and won't slow down enough to fall asleep. Here's hoping I can sleep in and get some good rest this weekend!

Funniest Dream Of This Week: - Yesterday we had new students move into our dorms on campus and we get to wear shorts and t-shirts to help move them in. {don't worry I just watched!} On Sunday night though, I dreamed that I was getting dressed for work on Tuesday morning and my mom came to my house and took all of my maternity clothes and hid them from me as a way to teach me a lesson about organizing my closet. It was a rush of me trying to convince her I needed my clothes back, then finding out my grandparents gave us an Alaskan cruise and then having to leave to go on the vacation in my pajama pants. I was very thankful when I woke up and had all of my clothes to choose from!

Highlights Of This Week: - God has shined down on Abilene, TX and we have had the best weather of this summer. We're talking 60's when we wake up, some rain and only highs of 90. I have even gotten to run the air conditioner in my office and wear a sweatshirt because I'm cold! Do you know the last time I was cold?!?! {Probably January.} It has certainly been a welcomed change in my last week of pregnancy.

Looking forward to:  Tuesday, August 28th! Which is also known as my "Golden Birthday!" {28 on the 28th} and more importantly, what will be Griffin's birthday!! Yep, unless he does something drastic on his own before then, my little man and I will share a birthday.
When we saw my OB on Monday, we worked out the following plan: {if you are a boy and want to skip because I'm about to use the words cervix and ripen together, stop reading now.} I will have one last appointment on Monday for her to check me. If I am still at a 1 and 50% effaced, we will check into the hospital that day and I will get the medicine Cervidil, which is used to ripen your cervix and get you fully effaced. As long as my cervix cooperates, they would then induce me on Tuesday morning and let me try to have a natural delivery. If it looked like it was going to be a long hard labor, then she would end up doing a c-section.

Now, there is a slight chance the medicine may not work and my cervix would be the same. If that happened, we would then decide if we wanted to go ahead and do a c-section or possibly wait out another week. {torture I tell you!} Personally, I don't think that this will be the situation we face. I am getting up every morning to walk now and can tell the Griffin was already lower this morning when I woke up. I have also given it over to God in prayer because if I let myself, I would spend the next 6 days worried out of my mind that it wasn't going to work and our family would drive in for no reason and then have to go home and the wasted gas and then what happens with my maternity leave and on and on and on... As Cody and I were talking about it I told him my biggest fear would be that we have to decide to do an elective c-section on Tuesday or wait it out. I don't want my eagerness to be not pregnant anymore to turn into a hasty decision to have a c-section if that's not the best decision for me. I love my doctor and am so thankful she has experience with heart patients and pregnancy and I trust her decision, so I want it to be her guidance that makes the decision. I am praying that my body will progress in the next week and through the help of the medicine on Monday and Tuesday, will be able to have a safe delivery - for both Griffin and my heart! We would definitely appreciate your prayers for this too!

So there you go. Six days and our little man will finally be here. We are so excited and can't wait for his arrival!!

  1. Was wondering when your next appointment was. Praying that things progress smoothly and Griffin makes his official appearance right on schedule next Tuesday! If there's anything we can do, please let us know. Much love and prayers coming yall's way! <3

  2. ya look amazing!!! Lots of love and prayers as your little one enters this world.

  3. I had a dream the other night you had him, obviously it wasn't true. I am glad you have a plan. I can't wait to meet Griffin!
