We're still in the middle of some kitchen updates around here, so I haven't been cooking as much as I normally do. After two weeks of microwave meals, hodge podge leftovers and eating out, I'd had enough. Plus I wanted to use some of the bulk items in our freezer, so I decided to try a new crock pot meal.
Here is the link to The Pioneer Woman's post for this recipe. There's no competing with her pictures or writing style, so why try? :)
Here's what I actually did:
Quarter an onion and lay in the bottom of your crock pot. Take a 3 lb roast, season as you wish, and place on the onion. Pour in a small can of chilies in adobo sauce and a 12 oz Dr. Pepper. Cook on high for 6 hours.
Serve in tortillas with salad and chips.
Here's my thoughts on this recipe:
#1. It smells DELICIOUS when cooking. Seriously. I would make it every day just to make my house smell that good.
#2. It tastes JUST AS GOOD AS IT SMELLS.
#3. IT IS SO SPICY. OW CHI MAMA BURN YOUR TONGUE, MOUTH, LIPS AND ANYTHING IN THE NEAR VICINITY.
Seriously people. I used a full, small can of the chilies and it was overwhelmingly hot. Cody and I both had to put bbq sauce on our wraps to try to calm them down, and then we still had to eat a little bite of frozen yogurt after we were finished.
Hands down, I would encourage you to make this recipe because it is easy and delicious. BUT, if you have a small roast that you're using, you definitely want to cut the amount of chilies in half.
Try it out, you'll definitely be glad you did!
I've never made it like this but I have used a can of root beer. It's so strange how the coke makes the roast fall apart- it couldn't be good for you! I'll have to try the spicy style! Sounds yum!
