Bad News...

Cody and I were headed home for lunch today when he received a phone call. This in itself was really weird because 1)usually I'm the main person who calls him during the day 2)I haven't heard his phone ring in a really long time, so it caught me off gaurd, and 3) I could tell by the way he answered it that he didn't know who it was.

I don't really remember much of what he said, but I could tell by his tone that it was not good. I do remember hearing, "Are you kidding me?!? When did this happen?!"

The call was from Wells Fargo, our mortgage company. Apparently, they sent our home insurance payment a month late to Progressive. It was late enough that Progressive sent the money back and canceled our home insurance, saying that it was too late for us to renew the policy.

When did all of this happen you ask? In AUGUST. August 21 to be exact. So it's been two full months that we've been without insurance and neither one of the companies took the time to let us know what was going on.

As you can imagine, Cody was pretty hot to trot! Don't get me wrong, I was mad too, but Cody was the one who handled all of it so he was more involved than I was. He immediately called Progressive to get more information. All he really found out from them is that it will now be $600 more for us to have the exact same policy that we previously had. Cody then got back on the phone with Wells Fargo to let them know about the price difference and made sure they knew in no certain terms that we were NOT going to be paying that extra money because it is not our fault this happened. In all of our years of dating and marriage, I have never seen Cody speak with as much authority and assertiveness as he did today! It was pretty remarkable if I do say so myself.

In the end, Cody had to go round about with Progressive and Wells Fargo and finally had a 3 way conversation with them. As of right now, we do have insurance, but there is an "open investigation" to find out what went wrong. I feel sorry for the person who has to go on the paper trail to figure out what went wrong! We'll know the official results on Nov. 8 and Cody has already made it clear that no extra money is coming out of our pocket. It was fun to watch him get on a power trip today.... but I'm hoping it doesn't have to happen again any time soon!
